THIRD-LEVEL KHMER
(CAM 301-302)
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES
 
This course is the continuation of CAM 202 or equivalent.  The course objective is to advance students knowledge of and skill in reading, comprehensive, speaking, and composition.  At the conclusion of the course students will have a control of Khmer grammar sufficient to read modern Khmer literature and discussion the ideas and cultural content of their readings, as well as to compose compositions and such subjects.

COURSE CURRICULUM
 

There is no formal textbook for third-level Khmer instruction.  The syllabus consists of native Cambodian materials, edited and selected by the instructor, covering the following topics: Khmer folktales, modern Khmer literature, historical and descriptive essays on various aspects of Khmer culture, newspaper and magazine.

Audio-visual aids such as tapes, slides, and movies will be used to complement the texts.

Class meets on M W F for 50 minutes.


TESTING & EVALUATION
 
Every Friday, students will have a small presentation covering a topic already discussed in class.  There will also be a mid-term and a final exam.

GRADING SYSTEM
 

Students' grades will be based on the mid-term and final exams, and on their weekly class presentation, as well as on daily class performance.
