Graduate Athletic Training Education Programs
Athletic Training is a healthcare profession recognized by the American Medical Association and governed by the National Athletic Trainers Association. The Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science offers an MS degree with two options. Accredited Graduate Athletic Training Education Programs are available for students who wish become Athletic Trainers (Entry-Level option) or for individuals who are already Athletic Trainers who want to pursue advanced knowledge and research (Post-Professional option). The student association for all graduate students is the Hawaii Athletic Training Society (HATS).

Entry-Level Graduate Athletic Training Education Program
The Entry-Level Graduate Athletic Training Education Program (EL-GATEP) mission is to prepare graduate students to become BOC certified athletic trainers and scholarly practitioners in the athletic training profession. For more information about the Athletic Training Profession, visit the NATA website for students. Students who want to become certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum program and pass a national Board of Certification exam (BOC). The EL-GATEP at the University of Hawaii is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Post Professional Advanced Athletic Training Program (AATP)
The Post Professional AATP’s mission is to:

Prepare BOC certified (or certification eligible) students to become scholars and leaders in the athletic training profession

Substantiate and expand the scientific foundations of athletic training through education and research

Provide and expand diverse educational and clinical practices, and stimulate the desire for lifelong professional development to provide “cutting edge” service to the profession, the state, the nation, and the Pacific Rim

This program is provisionally accredited by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
