The mission of the Entry-Level Graduate Athletic Training Education Program (EL-GATEP) is to prepare graduate students to become BOC certified athletic trainers and scholarly practitioners in the athletic training profession.  For Freshmen, Transfer Students, or College Graduates who are interested in applying to the Professional Education Program, but do not meet the admission requirements, please see or Pre-Professional Option.

Applying to the Professional Education Program

Deadline for Applications: The Admissions Committee reviews applications received by February 15 for Priority Admission and applications received by April 1 for Regular Admission.  Early application is encouraged as the program fills quickly with qualified applicants on a first-come first-serve basis.  Since the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of spaces available, admission is competitive.  Meeting minimum admissions standard does not guarantee admission.

     Application is a Two-Step Process:

Step 1:  Apply online to the Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, Entry-Level Athletic Training specialization through the Graduate Division.  Submit official transcripts and GRE scores directly from institution (see address below).  Print Graduate Application and include in application packet

Follow up with the Graduate Admissions Office to ensure they received:

  • Graduate Division application - Complete online:  click here to apply

  • Original / Official Transcripts – sent directly from school to the UH Graduate Division (do NOT send to Program Director)

  • GRE scores – sent directly from testing service to the UH Graduate Division (do NOT send to Program Director)

     

 

Step 2:  Send Application Packet to Dr. Cleary at address below.  Do NOT bind or use page protectors.

         Items needed for Complete Application Packet:

  • Memo addressed to Dr. Cleary of any missing information and when it will arrive

  • EL-GATEP application (MUST be typed!)

  • Confirmation of Graduate Admissions Application submission (print from website)

  • Completed (or in-progress) pre-requisites (see Program Description above)

  • Copies of transcripts from all universities attended – unofficial or printed from computer (send official transcripts directly to Graduate Admissions)

  • Copy of GRE scores – unofficial or printed from computer (send official scores directly to Graduate Admissions)

  • A resume or CV detailing current credentials and clinical experience

  • A cover letter with professional goals and explanation of any outstanding circumstances.  Should be addressed to the Admissions Committee.

  • Three letters of recommendation, at least one from supervising ATC, addressed to Admissions Committee

  • Signed Technical Standards for Admission Form

  • Signed Experience Voucher Form

    ~200 hours observation required in traditional Athletic Training setting (high school, college/university).  MUST be supervised by an ATC.

    May be in progress at time of application, describe in plan for completion prior to beginning program in cover letter

  • Scholarship Information
