HAWAIIAN HISTORY, CULTURE, LANGUAGE OR GEOGRAPHY (3 credits)
All College of Education students are required to complete a course in Hawaiian history, culture, language or geography. The following courses may be double counted to meet both the Hawaiian requirement and the core requirement of Foreign Language, Literature, or Social Science: HAW 101, 102, 201, 202; ESL 360; WS 360/ES 365. Other courses may be taken to satisfy the Hawaiian requirement but may not satisfy UHM core requirement. See the Office of Student Services for a listing of these additional courses.
WRITING INTENSIVE COURSES
Since writing helps students both to learn and to communicate, the university requires that students take several writing intensive courses. Students who entered the UH system as freshmen during or after 1990-1991 must complete, (before they can graduate from the Manoa campus), 5 writing intensive courses (as designated by the university). At least 2 of the writing intensive courses must be upper division offerings (> 300 level). Transfer students from outside the UH system should consult page 43 of the 1997-1999 General and Graduate Information Catalog.
