KOKUA frequently receives requests from UHM students who
inquire about van transportation due to temporary
mobility conditions (e.g. injuries related to moped accidents,
sports' injuries, etc.) Generally, these requests cannot
be approved, however students with temporary disabilities may
be accommodated if they are in proximity to existing van runs
and as staff and/or vehicle availability allows. For
more information please contact a KOKUA Counselor.
NOTE: Should a van passenger request a ride for an
acquaintance who is headed for the same destination, such a
request must be denied.
What are the KOKUA Van's hours of operation?
Van runs can be scheduled for
pick-up of passengers from 7:45 AM; drop-offs can be scheduled
up to 4:30 PM. Requests outside of the hours of
operation, which are due to extenuating circumstances, must be
discussed with a KOKUA Counselor.
The Campus Shuttle offers an alternative means of
transportation to those permanently-disabled students who are
able to safely use the shuttle. (Shuttle operations are
available during the Fall and Spring semesters only.)
What about passenger safety?
Passengers who sit in the front
and rear seats must use seatbelts while riding in the van.
Wheelchair users will enter the van via the ramp and their
wheelchairs will be tied down with safety straps.
Wheelchair users are strongly encouraged to have seatbelts
installed on their wheelchairs.
What if I will not be riding during my scheduled time?
Once a van schedule is
established, passengers are expected to be on time. If
you are unable to meet the van at your scheduled time, we
respectfully ask that you call us at 956-7612 or 956-7511 (24
hour voice mail available) regarding your delay or
cancellation in advance or as soon as possible.
Questions, comments or concerns?
Should you have any questions,
concerns, suggestions, or information in regards to
intra-campus van transportation here at UHM, please do not
hesitate to contact Vanessa Ito (Counselor) at 956-7612 or any
full-time KOKUA staff member. |
