Dear Students,

Welcome to the Center for Korean Studies Web page. I hope that you will study our program information carefully, and I am certain that you will soon discover that we are one of the top institutions in the United States for the study of Korea. We have more faculty studying various aspects of Korea than any other U.S. university, and that translates into more courses across more subjects. We also have one of the largest concentrations of graduate students, and that means more opportunities to share and learn with a cadre of hard-working scholars and students. Added benefits to studying in Hawai'i are the strong support from the State of Hawai'i and our ample community resources. Beyond the campus, we have many Korean civic and cultural groups and lots of Korean markets, where an abundance of Korean goods and Korean life can be found.

The faculty of the Center for Korean Studies is anxious to support students in their academic pursuits as much as possible—after all, we were all once students ourselves. The Center offers an array of scholarships and grants to make study and research time easier. Consider applying for these special CKS scholarships if you are interested in applying to the University of Hawai'i. Good luck with the application process, and let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ho-min Sohn
