The following campus and community resources represent only a sampling of the available opportunities for faculty, students, and community members to access information on Korean culture and society at the University of Hawai`i.

The Tongjihoe Collection contains records and materials generated by the organization to support the provisional government of Korea after the return of Dr. Syngman Rhee to Hawai`i in 1921. The archival materials cover the years from 1925 to 1970.

The Center for Korean Studies Colloquium Series hosts visiting scholars, diplomats, business leaders, and community members up to ten times per year. These talks cover topics including recent research, contemporary politics, and ongoing community projects in the field of Korea-related studies.

Hamilton Library is home to the Asia Collection containing not only the Korea Collection (one of the largest collections of Korean-language materials in the United States) but also extensive holdings related to Korea in English, Chinese, and Japanese. The Center for Korean Studies library is a small, informal convenience library that supplements the more extensive resources of the Hamilton Library Korea Collection.

The Wong Audio-Visual Center, Sinclair Library, houses an extensive collection of films, videos, and recordings on Asian and Pacific related themes available for immediate viewing or borrowing. The East-West Center, an educational institution established by the United States Congress to bring together scholars from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States, is also located at the University of Hawai`i and provides a number of opportunities for study and research on the Mānoa campus. Program information may be obtained from the East-West Center, 1777 East-West Road, Honolulu, HI 96848.

The large population of Koreans and Korean Americans in Hawai`i is reflected in the growing number of businesses dealing in Korean foods, clothing, books, videos, entertainment, and art. Among the most useful community resources for students of Korean studies are the Korean Consulate, KBFD-TV, and Korean-language newspapers. For a detailed listing of the various Korean businesses, social organizations, and alumni associations, please check the Korean community directory provided by the Korean Association.

The Korean Consulate in Honolulu provides visa and passport assistance to students and faculty who wish to pursue academic study or travel in Korea. Please direct inquiries to:
