Ete Bowl XXX (Saturday, November 17, 2007) - After leading 4 to 3 at the half, the Etes came back with 4 consecutive second half touchdowns.  The Bruzers' suffered a 42-30 defeat in Ete Bowl XXX.  The Bruzers' record now stands at 21 wins, 8 losses, and 1 tie.  New players for the Bruzers this year included Yvonne Geesey (offensive line) and Sandra Kim (defensive back) from the Class of 2007, Ellen Politano '80 (defensive end), who returned to the team after a 25-year hiatus, and Traci Morita '02, who returned home after practicing on the mainland for the past few years.  Special thanks to the Bruzers' team managers (Haunani Burns '80, Linda Chow '88, Pam Larson '85, Rosemary McShane '81 and July Padron) and coaches (David Arakawa '81, James Hoapili, Mark Hakoda, Seth Harris '01, Steve Teves '90 and Jim Williston '78) for their help with this year's game. 

Ethical Lobbying In Hawaii Seminar (Tuesday, November 13, 2007) - After a successful turn-out at last year's Ethical Lobbying Seminar, the Alumni Association and the Law School co-sponsored yet another program on ethical lobbying at the State Capitol Auditorium.  This year, the seminar featured Ann Bailey, the ethics expert for the California State Senate and a top national speaker in the field, Daniel Mollway, executive director of the Hawaii State Ethics Commission, and Charles Totto, executive director of the Honolulu Ethics Commission. 

Fourth Annual All Class Reunion (Friday, September 28, 2007) - The Fourth Annual All Class Reunion was a sell-out with nearly 150 faculty, students, alumni, and guests attending this years reunion at Willows Restaurant.  This year, Gary O. Galiher ('77) was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year while Dean Avi Soifer conferred his Dean's Award to the Honorable Colleen Hanabusa ('77).  The Amercian Judicature Society used this event as an occasion to present awards to Chief Justice (retired) William S. Richardson, U.S. District Court Senior Judge Samuel P. King, and First Circuit Court Judge Steven Alm on behalf of the Hawaii Opportunity Probation Enforcement (HOPE) Program.  Thanks to the following people of the reunion classes for their help: 1977-Stuart Kaneko; 1982-Debbie Lee and Greg Lui-Kwan; 1987-Blake Bushnell, Donna Gray, Mike Lau and Linda Martell; 1997-Angela Lovitt and Maura Okamoto; and 2002-Steve Duck, Leighton Hara, Desiree Hikida Mokuohai, and Leilani Tan.  Also, a final mahalo to the event committee: Debbie Lee ('02) (emcee), Ming Chi ('05), Jill Hasegawa ('04), Haunani Burns ('80), Greg Lui-Kwan ('02), Linda Martell ('87), and Jim Williston ('78).  If you missed this year's party, join us for our Fifth Annual All Class Reunion in 2008 to recognize the spcial anniversary classes of 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, and 2003.

Habitat for Humanity Service Project (Saturday, July 21, 2007) - On this bright sunny morning, 16 alumni and friends joined Habitat for Humanity again to help build homes at three different sites for three families.  Special thanks to all of the volunteers who made this project a success: Shirley Garcia '02, Heidi Guth '02, Sara Young, Aaron, Jill Hasegawa '04, Haunani Burns '80, Wendell Choy '82, Greg Lui-Kwan '82, Calvin Young '82, Leslie Young, Liko Soma, Connie Chow '06, Daniel Park '06, Chris Ewan '05, Ming Chi '05, and Keith Johnston.  To learn more about this successful service project, please read the February 2008 alumni newsletter. 

Third Annual Food & Winetasting Extravaganza (Friday, June 29, 2007) - Over 80 people attended this year's Food & Winetasting Fundraiser at the Plaza Club for food, wine and camaraderie.  A special "mahalo" to Gordon Arakaki ('84) for coordinating with the wine merchants and vendors and for sponsoring the event at the Plaza Club.  Thanks also to Mike and Terry Kakazu of HASR Wine Co., Sky Cameron of Chambers and Chambers Wine Merchants, Chris Muraoka and Garet Tanaka of Johnson Bros., John Romero and Mark Miyahira of Southern Wine and Spirits, and Mike Kido for their generous wine donations.

20th Annual Golf Tournament (Thursday, May 17, 2007) - 132 alumni, law students, and friends attended the 20th Annual Law School Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course.  Dean Avi Soifer, Chief Justice (retired) William S. Richardson, and the U.H. Rainbow Dancers were at the tournament to give their positive energies.  Winner of the Waihee Trophy for the best all alumni/student team were Kaleen Miyasato ('00), Anne Lopez ('01), and Philip Miyoshi ('00).  Winner of the Richardson Trophy for the best mixed alumni and guest team (with the overall low net score) was the team of Dan Pagliarini ('87V), Blake Bushnell ('87), and Anthony Pace.  Winner of the Dean's Trophy for the best all-guest team was the Goodsill Team of John Lacy, Randy Baldemor and Vince Baldemor.  Winners of the trophy for the best all-wahine team was the Galiher DeRobertis team of Diane Ono ('91), Andrea Dolim and Joyce Kimura.  Winners of the Nick Garcia putting contest was the team of Cathy Takase ('89), Gerald Takase ('82), and Craig Sadamoto ('84).  Thanks to the generosity of the tournament sponsors and donors, we were still able to raise $5,000 for scholarships to law students committed to public service and for the Elder Law Clinic.  For a list of tournament sponsors, prize donors, and other donors, please see the August 2007 alumni newsletter

Class of 2007 Graduation Dinner (Saturday, April 21, 2007) - The Graduation Dinner for the Class of 2007 was held at the Waikiki Resort Hotel.  Honorable Sabrina S. McKenna ('82) and Professor Hazel G. Beh ('91) addressed the Class of 2007.  Special thanks to Levi Ho`okano ('06) and Trisha Nakamura ('06) for all their hard work putting this event together and making it such a success.

Waimea Valley Audubon Center Service Project (Saturday, January 27, 2007) - For the January Service Project, over 30 alumni, faculty, friends and family cleared the invasive and other non-native foliage from the area surrounding Pond #4 at the Waimea Valley Audubon Center.  After three hours of work, the group walked up to Waimea Falls to enjoy their lunch. Thanks to those who help to restore Waimea Valley: Rosemary Fazio ('78), Jim Williston ('78), Calvin ('82), Leslie, Sara and Katie Young, Sean and Janelle McCabe, Greg Lui-Kwan ('82), Debbie ('82) and Vonne Lee, Philip ('84) and Pamela Lahne, Marc Garren ('97V), Carter Siu ('99), Sat Freedman ('01), Steve Duck ('02), Jill Hasegawa ('04), Ming Chi ('05), Chris Ewan ('05), Levi Hookano ('06), Blaine Rogers ('06), Professor Mark Levin and his  son Sam, and a number of law students and friends: Rebecca Delafield, Asami Miyazawa, Kim Plaushine, Everett Ohta, Ming Wong, Zachary Kondo, and James and Kevin Lu.
