| DEAN LARRY FOSTER is one of this year's three team leaders for the University's Aloha United Way campaign. DEAN FOSTER also served as a team leader last year. The Law School and our Environmental Law Program are featured in a cover story about America's best graduate schools in the Spring 2000 issue of "Beyond Boundaries," the newsletter from UH's office of the senior vice president for research and dean of the graduate division. |

| CHRIS IIJIMA was named as this year's Outstanding Professor of the Year at our Awards Ceremony on Monday. Chris, director of the Pre-admission Program and instructor in our writing program, joined the faculty in fall, 1998. JUDGE RICHARD POLLACK was named as Adjunct Professor of the Year. Judge Pollack taught Defense Clinic for many years and also taught Evidence last year while JOHN BARKAI was on sabbatical. Congratulations to these two outstanding professors! RON BROWN and the U.S.-ASIA Law Institute hosted a Chinese delegation from the Supreme People's Procuratorate in a legal exchange program this August. Local federal judges and local federal prosecutors also participated. HAZEL BEH's and Milton Diamond's (John A. Burns School of Medicine) article, "An Emerging Ethical and Medical Dilemma: Should Physicians Perform Sex Assignment Surgery on Infants with Ambiguous Genitalia?" has just been published as the lead article in 7 Michigan Journal of Gender and Law 1 (2000). The article discusses the complex ethical, medical and legal questions surrounding surgical treatment of intersex conditions in infants. |

| Over 150 law students were recognized at the Annual Awards Ceremony on August 28 for scholarships, public interest/service subject and other awards. GARRICK LAU 3L has been named as UH's loaned executive to the Aloha United Way this year. GARRICK has been very involved in AUW for several years. |

| RIKI FUJITANI'96, a director of the WSRSL Alumni Association, was just promoted to Vice President, Information Technology Division, at Island Insurance Company, the state's only locally owned and managed insurance company. KEITH AMEMIYA'91, executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, was featured in the August 30th issue of MidWeek after just concluding negotiations for a three-year exclusive television and Internet broadcast rights agreement with Hawaii Sports Network. He's pictured holding those standard lawyer props, a basketball and football. JULIA PEARSON'96 has accepted an offer to relocate to Taiwan and work at the Qi Lin International Law Offices in Taipei. One of the main partners there is Mark Ohlson, formerly of Case & Lynch in Honolulu. |

| Law librarian SWEE L. BERKEY was promoted from Librarian II to Librarian III recently. MIRABAI BREEMER has joined the staff on a "casual hire" (ie. temporary) basis as a public relations, development and alumni affairs specialist. Yes, Mirabai is married to David Breemer 3L!
