| CONSTRUCTION. The 2nd floor mauka offices and restrooms (rooms 203 - 208) will be undergoing remodeling beginning September 27 through early November. Anticipate some noise and dust but we hope the disruptions will be minimal. Because the 2nd floor mauka restrooms will be closed, the downstairs restrooms will remain open during evenings and weekends. Contact the Associate Dean with concerns. |

| DANIELLE CONWAY-JONES's article "A Recruit's Guide to the On-Campus Interview Process and the Job Talk" was just published in Vol. 5, Issue 2, Michigan Journal of Race & Law, Spring 2000. CHRIS IIJIMA's law review article "Race Over Rice: Binary Analytical Boxes and a 21st Century Endorsement of 19th Century Imperialism in Rice v. Cayetano" will be published in Volume 53 of the Rutgers Law Review scheduled for December 2000. RANDY ROTH's article on "Current Ethical Problems in Estate Planning" appeared in Vol. 6, No. 4 of ALI-ABA Estate Planning Course Materials Journal, August 2000. On September 17, CBS' 60 Minutes also rebroadcasted its segment on the Bishop Estate which featured an interview with PROF.ROTH. JON VAN DYKE taught a one-week course in August comparing U.S. and Japanese Constitutional Law Principles at Meiji University in Nagoya as part of a faculty exchange program with their law faculty. PROF. VAN DYKE was also selected as an alternate in the "conservation slot" to the Humpback Whale Sanctuary Advisory Committee. |

| Congratulations to the newly elected SBA Representatives. TERI BARNETT 3L gave birth to a health baby girl on Wednesday, Sept. 20! Jillian Nicole Barnett weighed in at 8lb. 13.3 oz and is home with mommy and daddy. MIKE WONG 3L ran for one of the Board of Education at large seats in the recent primary. He came in a very respectable 7th, having received over 17,000 votes. ED TALMADGE 3L, who transferred to the University of Oregon last year, recently emailed to PROF. MARK LEVIN that he and his wife are enjoying it there. |

| JESSICA EAR'00 and CLAY ADLER '98 just got married in a Chinese/Cambodian ceremony on September 2 and then in a Jewish ceremony on September 3 in Maryland and Virginia. They were joined by MAILE SHIMABUKURO '00, ERIC COMEAU '98, STEVE HOWARD '98, BRETT RYAN '98, and CANDICE KWON '98. JESSICA and CLAY will be working in China. |

| The 14th Annual UH Law Benefit Golf Tournament was held on September 21 with a field of 150 golfers. Proceeds are still being tallied but will support a Scholarship Award and community service projects including UHELP. The Best Score was awarded to Lloyd Nekoba, Ron Tang, and Brian Minaai of DFS Hawai'i, while one of our student teams, DEAN HOE 2L, LEIGHTON HARA 2L, and JEFF NG 2L , claimed the Lowest Score award. The team, sponsored by JIM WILLISTON '78, played with CJ RICHARDSON who said he had a great time! A second student team with GEORGE BURKE 2L, RYAN SHINSATO 2L, and CAMERON NEKOTA 2L, and sponsored by Carnazzo Court Reporting, scored in the Top Ten overall and the Highest Score for an Alumni/Student team. Special thanks to EILEEN BROMS, JIM WILLISTON '78 and the Golf Committee. Volunteers included JIM PIETSCH, LENNIE LEE, DERYK WAHL 2L, KAREN ARIKAWA 3L, NATALIE DODSON 1L, WENDY YAMAMOTO and KRISTEN LUNDGREN 1L, WSRSLAA President CAROLYN OSHIRO '94, Other volunteers included CAROL MON LEE, PAT ABRACIA, MIRABAI BREEMER, YVONNE KOBASHIGAWA and LESLEY TANAKA. The September 22 issue of the UH student newspaper Ka Leo noted the law school's recent Native American Moot Court Competition accomplishments, finishing first in the nation for two years in a row. The reference was in an article about "Manoa is the place to be." |
