| The Environmental Law Program has published its inaugural edition of "He Hau Mo`olelo Kanawai o ka Aina" series. Funded by a grant from the Pohaku Fund of the Tides Foundation, this issue was sent to 200 law professors and coastal resource managers across the United States and in Hawai`i. The paper, written by Jean Campbell '00, surveys state laws on the boundary between public and private lands in the coastal zone. The paper is also accessible through the ELP website at www.hawaii.edu/elp. The law school took out a full-page ad in the October issue of the Hawaii Bar Journal to announce the school's 1999-00/2000-01 award recipients, including faculty awards, law student awards for academic excellence, public interest/service, subject and others awards. |

| DAVID CALLIES is one of the featured speakers at the HSBA/CLE Annual Real Property Litigation Update scheduled for November 1, 2000 at the HEI Training Center. CHRIS IIJIMA will be presenting at the Society of American Law Teachers on October 20th at NYU Law School on his recent article in Indiana Law Review, "Separating Support From Betrayal." On October 16th PROF. IIJIMA will be speaking to a gathering of school teachers on Kaua`i on diversity and education on behalf of the Hawai`i Civil Rights Commission. JON VAN DYKE'S article entitled "Sharing Ocean Resources -- in a Time of Scarcity and Selfishness," has been published as the lead article in the book of essays intitled "The Law of the Sea: Inherited Doctrine and a Regime for the Common Heritage" edited by Harry Scheiber (Professor at U.Calif.-Berkeley Law School) and published by Kluwer Press. |

| Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Team for 2000-01 will be SETH HARRIS, NICHOLE SHIMAMOTO, MARIA ESTANISLAO, LEILANI TAN, and CHASTITY IMAMURA. KAREN ARIKAWA and STEPHANIE McGEE are attending the ABA Forum on Entertainment and Sports Industries annual meeting in Orlando, Florida Oct. 13- 14 "Current Issues Affecting the Entertainment and Sports Industries." Stephanie is the Lt. Gov. for Resos and Bylaws, 9th circuit, Student Section of the ABA. DESIREE HIKIDA and DAISY HARTSFIELD are the new members of the 2001 Hispanic Moot Court Team. Desiree and Daisy will join returning members LIZ ROBINSONL and COLETTE HONDA , who will serve as an alternate. This will be the second year that the University of Hawaii is represented at the National Hispanic Moot Court competition. The competition will be held in March, at Hastings Law School in San Francisco. RINA CHUNG has just been announced as a one of two recipients of the 2000-01 Maui County Bar Association/ Arthur T. Ueoka Scholarship. KRISTINE NAMKUNG and VAN LUONG are loaned executives to this year's UH Aloha United Way campaign, along with GARRICK LAU. |

| The HSBA has announced the candidates for next year's Board of Directors. Among those running for board of directors from Oahu are Adjunct STEVEN CHOW'81, Adjunct RONETTE KAWAKAMI '85, ALICIA LEONHARD '93, and Associate Dean CAROL MON LEE. Running for Young Lawyers' Division Vice President/President Elect is JODI KIMURA '96. YLD Board of Director Candidates include BELINDA HALL'99, PETER HOROVITZ'97, MARK MORITA'96, REID YAMASHIRO'96, and RENEE YOSHIMURA'98. DEAN FOSTER was one of the many dignitaries briefly appearing on stage at the Hawaii Women's Legal Foundation benefit on October 14. VISITING STUDENT JOSH STANBRO and last year's WSRSL Alumni Assoc. President SHANLYN SOUZA'95 were among the "stars" in the evening of satire on matrimony. |
