AUW Update: we have reached $2400.00 in donations and pledges. Our law school goal this year is $2500.00 with the deadline of November 30. Thanks for your support! BAR ADMISSIONS. Deans FOSTER, LEE and TOCHIKI and AMY ONO attended the Bar Admission Ceremonies last week at the State Capitol for the successful applicants from the summer 2001 bar exam. Fed. Court Judge and ADJUNCT DAVID EZRA, addressed the audience and talked about the Federal Courts class he teaches at the law school. He also specially acknowledged his law clerk TRACY FUJIMOTO'01. Harry Yee, Pres. of the Federal Bar Association, also talked about the FBA's support of our Orientation program. Congratulations to our most recent bar admittees. UH HOMECOMING GAME: FREE TICKETS to all UH students for the November 10th, 2001 game against Boise State courtesy of the UH Alumni Association, ASUH, and UH Athletics. JOHN BARKAI displayed little known talent at the Annual Hawaii Women's Legal Foundation Fundraiser honoring the Mayors on October 20. Clad as Dr. Frank-N-Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show he performed in the finale "Time Warp." DAVID CALLIES returned from Tokyo this past week where he helped with the formation of a new Lambda Alpha International Chapter. Former VISITING PROF. TSUYOSHI KOTAKA acted as translator for the event. One new member is Professor Yoshiaki Nakamura who studied here for 18 months in the early 1990's, and who sent back his greetings and two bags of Japanese confections for the staff. While in Tokyo, PROF. CALLIES also had lunch with KESH SATO '97 and YOKO SATO '98, who are enjoying busy practice and management careers in Tokyo and report they get together quarterly with the 30 or so other Hawaii lawyers there. CHRIS IIJIMA, a member of the board of Na Loio, was the Master of Ceremonies at its recent fundraiser honoring UH Prof. Amy Agbayani. JON VAN DYKE has been selected to serve as "Analyst" for the Maui County Charter Commission, which will involve helping the Commission prepare proposed amendments to be submitted to the people of Maui next year. |

STUDENTS |
||
LEILANI TAN3L, KIM MOFFIE 3L, AND KANOELANI KANE 2L just returned from the International Environmental Moot Court Competition at Stetson University. They won 2 of their 3 preliminary rounds and advanced to the quarterfinals (top 8 teams out of 26). They then won their quarterfinal round, and moved on to the semifinals (top 4 teams). Although they did not advance to the final round, they performed very well competing against excellent teams from all over the US and internationally (including Canada, India, and Mexico). Each team member received a beautiful globe as a trophy with an inscribed gold plate reading, "Semifinalist 2001 Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition". LEILANI also earned the Runner-Up Best Oralist Award this year competing against over 50 other oralists. ROBERT HARRIS 3L, LEIGHTON HARA 3L and BRENDAN BAILEY 3L will join NORMAN
