ANNOUNCEMENTS |

LAW SUMMER SCHOOL. The University of Mississippi Summer Law Program will again be in residence at our law school between July 1 and August 2 . Among the professors include our own HAZEL BEH (Insurance Law), RANDY ROTH (Trusts and Estates) and LAURIE TOCHIKI (Children and Law). Summer school approval forms for any program are available at the Associate Dean’s Office. LLM PROGRAM. Pending approval, the law school is planning to welcome its first LLM students in Fall 2003. PROF. ALISON CONNER will be the program’s first Director. The American Bar Association’s sabbatical site visit to the law school to review our accreditation is scheduled for Spring 2003. The preparatory work has begun. PROF. KAREN GEBBIA- PINETTI and the Academic Standards Committee have1 been working on the curriculum portion of the self-study and SBA members DELLA AU-BELLATI and ROBERT HARRIS are working on the student section. DEAN FOSTER has dedicated a shelf in his office to RECENT LAW FACULTY BOOKS, a very impressive display of writings from the last five years or so. The Japanese American Citizens League 2002 DAY OF REMEMBRANCE held here at the law school on Feb. 18 was very well attended. MARTIN ROMUALDEZ’94 participated in the haiku poetry reading composed by Hawaii internees during the internment. PROF. ERIC YAMAMOTO was the featured speaker at the Day of Remembrance program in Los Angeles. MENTOR PROGRAM. This year the program has been revised to include a series of panel presentations by practicing attorneys. Everyone is invited to the Wednesday programs starting Feb. 20 on criminal law, Feb. 27 non-traditional careers, Mar. 6 family law, Mar. 13 wills,estate planning, real property and Mar. 20 corporate law. |

DAVID CALLIES and ADJUNCT PROF. PATRICK HANIFIN were on Channel 55’s “You and the Law” television series on Friday, Feb. 15. The topic was “The Public Trust Doctrine and Property Rights in Hawaii.” |

STUDENTS |
||
TRISHA WATSON 2L and LANCE COLLINS 1L were among the participants at the day-long University of Hawaii System-wide Strategic Planning Workshop in January along with DEAN FOSTER. APIL’s ANNUAL VALENTINE’S DAY CHILI SALE made over $500.00, the most successful chili sale ever. The money will go to summer grants for students to work in public interest areas. KRISTINE NAMKUNG 3L’s vegetarian chili was voted Best Chili – a hotly contested competition. APIL will be sponsoring another fundraiser, a Spring Lu’au, on March 15 to be held at the law school. CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY is developing a mentor program with local attorneys for spiritual, academic and career mentoring. APLPJ (Asian-Pacific Law and Policy Journal) is due to publish Vol. 3 No. 1 of its web-based journal on Feb. 27, 2002. APLPJ is also organizing a major International ADR Conference this spring with speakers from all over the world. Our JESSUP INTERNATIONAL MOOT COURT TEAM REGIONAL CHAMPS, CHASTITY IMAMURA 3L, VANESSA JANN-JORDAN 3L, KANOELANI KANE 2L, LEILANI TAN 3L and WIL YAMAMOTO 3L, will be competing in 4 preliminary rounds against 2 US schools and 2 international schools at the National and International Competition in Washington DC between Mar. 10 and 16. Based on their performance, they could advance to additional rounds. Over 70 countries, 1600 students and 400 different worldwide law schools will be represented. |
