ANNOUNCEMENTS |

A grant from the UH Humanities Endowment Fund was awarded to continue work this past summer on 'OHELO (Our Hawai'i Environmental Law On-line), a web-based archive of Hawai'i's environmental jurisprudence and related resources to become publicly accessible this year. The grant application was submitted by Prof. DENISE ANTOLINI with support from the Env. Law Program. ANNE LOPEZ'01 and NICHOLE SHIMAMOTO '01, editors-in-chief and the 00-01 Law Review Board and Editorial Staff have announced the publication and mailing of two UH Law Review editions from the academic year 99-00 (22:1 & 22:1) and the first edition from 00-01 (23:1). The second edition from 00-01 (23:2) is in second galleys and should go to print by mid September. |

FACULTY |

ALISON CONNER has been awarded a Distinguished Lectureship in Law under the U.S. Fulbright Scholars Program. She will be at Peking University in the spring'02 teaching Business Organizations and Legal Process. Prof. Conner is one of only 4 Fulbrights in law for China this year. DANIELLE CONWAY-JONES was selected for promotion to Major in the United States Army Reserve JAG's Corps. HAZEL BEH spent two week at Meijo University in Japan teaching Contracts to the Masters in Law Program. This is an annual summer faculty exchange program originally started by Prof. CALLIES and Dean FOSTER in 1996. Since that time, DAVID CALLIES, RON BROWN, GINNY HENCH, JON VAN DYKE and former professor JAY DRATLER have participated in the exchange. HAZEL BEH's insurance article, first presented at AALS in January, "Physical Loss in Cyberspace" was accepted for publication in the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal and her co-authored (Ray Panko, UH College of Business Administration) article, Employee Monitoring at Work for Pornography and Sexual Harassment was selected by Communication of the ACM for their special publication entitled, Internet Abuse in the Workplace." "Annexation Agreements and Development Agreements", a chapter (with model agreements) by Professor DAVID CALLIES and JULIE TAPPENDORF '97, was published in July in the book Trends in Land Use Law From A to Z, by the American Bar Association press. Tappendorf is an associate with the Chicago office of Holland & Knight where she practices local government/land use law. DAVID CALLIES has been nominated for a second term as Vice President Pacific Region, Lambda Alpha International (an international land economics honorary). In this capacity, he will help with the formation of a Lambda Alpha chapter in Tokyo in October. CHRIS IIJIMA wrote several newspaper articles over the summer. "How

minority' meets Fu Manchu" appeared in the Star Bulletin. |

DAVID BREEMER '01 won second place and $3,000 in the Pacific Legal Foundation writing competition his article "The Evolution of the Essential Nexus: How State and Federal Courts Have Interpreted Nollan and Dolan and Where They Should Go From Here." PAUL LIN-EASTON's (‘01) paper "It's Time for Environmentalists to Think Small--Real Small: ..." has been accepted by the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review for the upcoming Fall issue. The paper was written last semester for International Environmental Law with Prof. DOUG CODIGA. CJ DUNCAN’s (’00) article he wrote for APLPJ has been quoted in fn. 112 in the text of a Harvard article: 38 Harv. J. on Legis. 67, Information Technology in the War Against International Bribery and Corruption: The Next Frontier of Institutional Reform, by Steven R. Salbu. CJ is working in a small firm in Washington D.C. Several of our alumni were recently listed in "Best Lawyers, 2001" in Honolulu Magazine's June 2001 issue. DIANE D. HASTERT ‘78, SUSAN ICHINOSE ‘77, LEA HONG ‘91, STEPHANIE REZENTS ‘77, SENATOR COLLEEN HANABUSA ‘77, JERRY HIATT ‘77, ROSEMARY FAZIO ‘78, PATRICIA LEE ‘79, GAIL TAMASHIRO ‘84, RANDALL YEE ‘83 JUNICHI YANAGIHARA '87, Senior V.P. and Legal Counsel for Square USA, was involved in the making of "Final Fantasy" released this summer. Also featured in the film's credits is IRIS OGAWA '86 whose firm does Hawaii legal work for Square. DOUG CROSIER'78 is running for HSBA V.P./President-Elect this year. If elected, he would be the first law school alumni to serve in that capacity. Prof. RANDY ROTH served as President in 1999. |

| LARRY FOSTER was the recipient of the Dept. of Education, Windward Oahu District’s PRAISE Award for 2001. The award recognizes a public school graduate of a Windward District school who has received recognition in his/her field and has made a contribution to society and education. DEAN FOSTER was a graduate of Kailua High School. He was honored at a luncheon at the Educational Officers’ Conference in August. | |
