ANNOUNCEMENTS |

FALL REGISTRATION. The dates for fall law school registration have been moved to Thursday May 1st, Friday May 2nd and Monday May 5th. Registration will take place at the FRONT DESK, and not online as previously announced. LAW SCHOOL AIR CONDITIONING PROJECT. This long-term project to upgrade the air conditioning in the law school building is now in the planning stages. Several new Air Handling Units (AHU’s) will be installed throughout the law school building in locations that will least affect classroom and office space. Work will be scheduled around classroom use, when possible. A team will be at the law school starting on Friday, April 25 to take measurements. ALL UH EMPLOYEES must complete a new enrollment form for health coverage and the beneficiary designation form for life insurance. The new Employer-Union Health Trust Fund (EUTF), effective July 1, 2003, will assume the functions of the Public Employees Health Fund and will begin distribution of forms the last week of April. The open enrollment period is very short (May 1 to May 31). A response is required or coverage is canceled. See BOB DAGUIO for information. TRAVIS MIMURA, a Computer Services student assistant in our law library for the last four years, was nominated by Law Librarian SWEE BERKEY for the 2003 Student Employee of the Year Award. He won the award for the UH Manoa campus in the A4 - A7 category. Travis is also a past ASUH President. Travis is the second student employee from the law library to receive an award in three years. |

DENISE ANTOLINI was recently appointed to serve as Chair of the new campus-wide Understanding Student Affairs Committee, which will be broadly consulting with students, faculty, staff, and management in April and May to review and report on student affairs functions and services at UH Manoa. DELLA AU BELATTI 3L will serve as a staff assistant to the committee. A consultation session with the committee will scheduled at the Law School; please contact PROF. ANTOLINI for more information. DAVID CALLIES has a new book set for May publication by the Environmental Law Institute. Co-authored with JULIE TAPPENDORF’97 and California land use author and attorney Daniel Curtin, the book is entitled Bargaining for Public Facilities: A Handbook on Development Ageements, Annexation Agreements, Land Development Conditions and Vested Rights. Aside from the text, the book's appendices provide model legislation, agreements and checklists. DANIELLE CONWAY-JONES spoke at the 77th Annual Distance Education Training Council Conference on Maui, Hawaii April 15, 2003. The topic was Distance Education and the Law: Copyright, Privacy, and Ethics. PROF. CONWAY-JONES discussed the Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act (TEACH) that became law on November 2, 2002. PROF. CONWAY-JONES will be presenting an intellectual property class for the Natural Resources and Environment Department’s Tropical Agricultural class of 80 students on April 24, 2003. |

| JOHN C. TUCKER, husband of VISITING PROF. JAYNE BARNARD, was the speaker at the American Inn of Court annual banquet on April 17. He is the author of the new nonfiction book “Trial and Error” and other nonfiction. | |
