About the University of Hawai`i Law Review
Law Review Membership
The University of Hawai`i Law Review's goal of promoting legal discourse nationally and in the Pacific can only be achieved through the hard work and dedication of the membership, which receives support from the administration of the William S. Richardson School of Law.
Law Review members spend long hours writing, editing and checking the citations of all internal and outside articles destined for publication. The analytical writing and editing skills gained by members are favored by employers for positions in government, private practice and judicial clerkships.
Board
The University of Hawai`i Law Review Board is elected from the preceding year's 2L staff writers. Positions held by Board members include: Editor-in-Chief, Executive Editor for Production, Executive Editor for Research, Managing Editor, Technical Editor, Comments Editor, Outside Articles Editor, and Casenote Editor.
Staff Writers
The membership includes both 2L and 3L staff writers.
2L Staff Writers
These sixteen positions are filled in two manners: by class ranking and through a writing competition. At the completion of their first year, the highest ranking eight students of the 1L class are invited to join the membership in the coming fall. The remaining positions are filled through a yearly write-on competition conducted by the incoming Casenote Editors.
3L Staff Writers
These positions are filled through a write-on competition conducted by the incoming Comments Editors, in which 2L students may submit their Second-year Seminar papers as their application piece.
