NOTE: This may also apply to Outlook. If you find that
it does, please let the maintainer know.
To add the UH Directory Service to Outlook Express, do the following:
- Select Address Book from the Tools menu or click on the Address
Book button.
- Select Accounts from the Address Book's Tools menu to get the
Internet Account dialog box.
- Click the Add button in the Internet Accounts dialog box.
This will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard.
- Enter the following information on the wizard's screens:
- Internet directory (LDAP) server: ldap1.its.hawaii.edu
- Uncheck: This server requires me to log on
- Do you want to check addresses using this directory service?
No
- Select the ldap1.its.hawaii.edu account on the Directory Service
tab of the Internet Accounts dialog box. Click on the
properties button to get the directory service property
sheet window.
- On the General tab change the directory service account name
to UH Directory Service.
- Add the following to the Advanced tab:
- Directory Service (LDAP) port Number: 389
- Search base: ou=People, dc=hawaii, dc=edu
- Maximum number of matches to return: 100
- Save the configuration clicking on the OK button.
To use the UH Directory Service:
- Select Address Book from the Tools menu or click on the Address
Book button.
- Select Find People from the Address Book's Edit menu or click
on the Find People button.
- Enter a first and last name in the the name field on the People
tab.
- Click on the Find Now button to start the search.
- "russ tokuyama" should return "Russell Curtis Tokuyama" for
the name and
"russ@hawaii.edu" for the email address.
- For details about entries returned, click on the Properties button
or double-click on the entry.
Gory details or What's under the hood?
The Address Book component of Outlook Express is also known as
the Windows Address Book. This means that you can to use it without
using Outlook Express. Under Windows 2000, you can call it up
by running the program,
WAB.EXE, in a command window or
type,
wab, in the Open field in the Start -> Run
dialog box and clicking on the OK button. Also under Windows 2000,
you can use the search feature of the Windows Explorer which will invoke
the Windows Address Book.
