Description of library/collection
The collection is a general medium sized Public Library collection of about 48,000 volumes and 120 periodical subscriptions, which include local and nationwide newspaper subscriptions. The collection consists of a Juvenile, Young Adult and Adult: Hawaiiana, Reference and a circulating print collection. In addition to a circulating Audio-Visual collection: Audio-tapes, Video-tapes, CD’s and DVD’s. The library has 3 Internet accessible terminals available for the public.
Description of internship
Assist the children’s Librarian, Ninfa Tolentino in preparing and presenting children’s programs. Assists the children’s librarian in providing Reference service for young library patrons and their parents, guardians or caretakers. Work on an after-school book-discussion program for early elementary age library patrons.

Tuesday: from 8.00 – 1.00 p.m. (5 hours)
Thursday: from 8.00 – 1.00 p.m. (5 hours)
Learning/experiential goals or work outcomes expected
Acquire the skill and experience to prepare, organize, publicize and present a weekly 30-45 minutes children’s story hour.
Acquire the skill and experience to provide Juvenile Reference Service.
Use the “Evaluation of Student Intern” form 9/0 as a final evaluation.
The supervising Librarian will also prepare a narrative evaluation of the student for the duration of the internship.
Evaluation of the Student Intern will be based on observations made during the internship by the Supervising Librarian, and how recommendations for improvements (if/when needed) are applied and put into practice.
