Description of collection

The Special Research Collection manages archival collections reflecting a broad range of content and format. The collections document the people, history, culture, architecture, and politics of Hawaii. These collections support scholarly research, teaching and public awareness, as well as promote an understanding of Hawaii's rich multicultural heritage.

Description of internship

The intern will have the opportunity to perform archival duties that may include, but are not limited to: creating inventories of collections, processing materials, and using online software to create EAD-compatible finding aids.

Required prerequisites/qualifications

No prerequisite courses.

Desired qualifications

Good organizational and computer skills. Experience or knowledge of preservation issues of historical material. Willing to pursue research to develop knowledge about the collection(s).

Weekly schedule

Hours are flexible; 10-15 hours per week to be scheduled between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Minimum of 2 hours per session.

Learning/experiential goals or work outcomes expected

Obtain hands-on experience working with archival collections, either processing collections or using software to create finding aids. May provide instruction and reference services to researchers.

Evaluation methods

Ongoing informal feedback throughout the semester.

Evaluation schedule

The LIS 690 Evaluation Form will be completed by the Supervising Librarian at the end of the semester.
