Description of the library/collection
The Sinclair Library houses the Student Success Center, the AV Wong Media center, the music collection and printed periodicals from before 1975.
Description of internship
Sinclair Library and the Student Success Center provide an environment that supports student learning. One of the tools we pride ourselves on is flash tutorials that provide basic library instruction such as how to search UH Voyager, How to Get Items, and How to use electronic databases, etc. Since the libraries online systems of the library are regularly updated, the instruction tools need regular update also. On an on-going basis we evaluate and implement what changes are needed by going through instructions that are both text based and flash movies. The Flash movies are created using Camtasia and other screen capturing software such as Jig. . This internship involves updating existing and creating new tutorials. Usability testing and needs assessment work are also done as needed. Work with a librarian supervisor and usually other student workers or volunteers to develop and up load these tutorials onto the Library’s web page.
Familiarity with UH Voyager and searching electronic resources. Interest in basic educational principles for library instruction. Comfortable with Window OS environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision and report regularly via email. Willingness to have your voice recorded as part of the tutorial creating process.
Reference service experience, Familiarity with Screen capturing software, experience with online tutorials, knowledge of basic web design.
Minimum ten hours a week for the semester. Specific hours negotiable.

- Instructional development including readings and research in the field
- Evaluation and Assessment
- Theoretical knowledge of tutorial educational objectives and technology
- Working knowledge of creation of tutorials
- Working knowledge of the Voyager system and electronic databases
Print based documentation will be updated. This documents what has been done. This will include new story boards and screen shots of the tutorials, Results of public surveys and student feed back. A recommendation section for future development. A brief mid point evaluation of the project and a final paper reporting on the project will include a journal section that logs the hours, process and problems, concerns or surprises that arise, as well as feed back from the supervisor with an annotated bibliography of readings.
Weekly email reports to supervisor with feedback/ suggestions, a mid point interview and evaluation, final presentation of print based documentation and tutorials.
