<p class="MsoNormal">We seek a motivated, dynamic, and talented part-time project archivist to manage a project to process a selection of our University Archives holdings, including the records of the President, Provost, Dean of Arts and Sciences, the University Senates, Institutional Advancement, and Institutional Research.  The successful candidate will be committed to and creative in planning, organizing, and carrying out archival activities related to irreplaceable documents of the University.   <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong><br />
Working in a collegial environment, the archivist will arrange and describe selected holdings from the University Archives, maintain archives databases, and participate in the processing, preservation, digitization, and description of the University Archives holdings. Primary duties will include processing selected collections using the University Archives procedures as developed by the University Archivist, implementing access and preservation strategies using PastPerfect, identifying the historical strengths and weaknesses in the holdings, and supervising graduate and undergraduate student assistants.  The Project Archivist may contribute to building the digital holdings of Special Collections in CONTENTdm through the selection of relevant publications, photographs, or documents during processing. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong>REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br />
ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library Science by time of appointment.    Additional requirements include: demonstrated ability to maintain long-term project goals and meet deadlines; analytical, organizational, and interpersonal abilities, and excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated expertise working in a Windows-based environment; evidence of both professional initiative and flexibility, including the ability to work effectively and collegially with a large and diverse population of faculty, students, and staff; ability to work independently and in a team-based environment. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Preferred:  One year of experience in institutional archives work and knowledge of appraisal, processing, and preservation procedures.  Familiarity with PastPerfect, CONTENTdm, or comparable programs.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong>CAMPUS CONTEXT:</strong><br />

<p><strong><font style="background-color: #ffff66">Doctoral Fellowships in Archival Studies</font></strong> are currently available through a new eight-campus initiative for individuals who are interested in <em><font style="background-color: #ffff66">pursuing careers as educators and scholars</font></em> and who would be entering doctoral programs in Fall 2009. Applicants must apply for both the Fellowship and admission to one or more of the eight participating doctoral programs: University of California, Los Angeles; University of Michigan; University of Maryland; University of Texas, Austin; Simmons College; University of Wisconsin, Madison; University of Pittsburgh; and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. <font style="background-color: #ffff66"><strong>Each Fellowship will provide full tuition and annual stipends of $20,000 to Fellows for the first two years of their doctoral study</strong> at partnering academic programs. Those academic programs will provide full tuition and stipends to their Fellows for two additional years of study.</font></p>
<p>To underscore the Fellowship initiatives‚ <font style="background-color: #ffff66">emphasis on strengthening archival education and scholarship</font>, all Doctoral Fellows will attend, expenses-paid, annual Archival Education and Research Institutes (AERI). These weeklong summer institutes will be held each year for doctoral students and faculty in Archival Science from academic institutions nationally and around the world and will address a broad range of research methodologies, pedagogical techniques, and curriculum development. The first institute will be held at UCLA during the week of July 6th, 2009. Job Duties:
<ul>
<li>Read through, catalog and assess primary source materials in the PVS collection to determine suitability for posting in an online environment.</li>
<li>Research,      catalog and digitize additional primary source materials not currently in      the collection.</li>
</ul>
<p>
Qualifications:<br />
Current UH system graduate student carrying 6 credits in good academic standing in any of the following disciplines:

<p>Position Title: BHSD Intern</p>
<p>Location: Business, Humanities, and Social Sciences Department, Hamilton Library</p>
<p>General Description: BSHD Interns report to the department head for the performance of reference service and BHSD project support activities. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical reference experience, knowledge about the organization, and the process of reference services in an academic library setting. Approximately 15 hours per week starting at $10.80 per hour. Available immediately.</p>
<p>Special Responsibilities and Duties: Provides reference service at the Hamilton Library BHSD Reference Desk, including weekday evening hours and weekend hours. Performs assigned projects relating to reference service that require assessment and writing skills.</p>
<p>Qualifications: Graduate student enrolled in the UHM Library and Information Science Program. Applicant should have successfully completed LIS 601 (will consider applicant currently enrolled in LIS 601). Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and independently in a collegial organizational structure.</p>

<p>Duties may include the following: Handle account requests and<br />
create workspaces as needed.  Edit content (stories and unit<br />
plans) for publication.  Solicit and/or write news stories and<br />
post these to the community web site.  Identify educational<br />
content relevant to Hawai`i teachers (lesson plans, unit plans,<br />
and other resources), and enter descriptions of these in a<br />
resource database.  Seek out partners that have appropriate<br />
resources, recruiting their membership in <a href="http://hnlc.org/" target="_blank">hnlc.org</a>, and<br />
facilitating their posting of services and resources. Conduct or<br />
assist in conducting teacher training workshops on the use of<br />
<a href="http://hnlc.org/" target="_blank">hnlc.org</a>.</p>
<p>Minimum qualifications include English skills (speaking,<br />
listening, writing and editing); ability to work effectively with<br />
teachers and other DOE staff; ability to conduct training<br />
workshops; familiarity with common office software and<br />
communications software; and willingness to be trained on using<br />
new software interfaces. Desirable qualifications include web<br />
editing experience, experience working with educators, flexible<br />
schedule, and/or interest in studying online communities.<br />
Training in the use of <a href="http://hnlc.org/" target="_blank">hnlc.org</a> and associated tools will be<br />
provided as needed.</p>
