MANDATORY ORIENTATION MEETING
For students interested in taking LIS 690 in the Fall 2008 semester
Friday, February 15, 2008
10:00-11:00 Bilger 319
If you are considering doing an internship next term, remember that LIS 601 and LIS 663, and sometimes LIS 605, are prerequisites.
Please attend this mandatory orientation because there are specific procedures and deadlines that need to be observed in order to enroll in this course.

Spring 2008 HTML Workshops: February 2-23, Saturdays 11:45-1:15, HAM113

These workshops are 1 1/2 hour hands-on information sessions designed to help you learn how to create a webpage from scratch. You will learn the basics of HTML and CSS - two web design computer languages - as well as tips and tricks to create a successful website. For those of you in the LIS 610 course, this is the perfect class to help with your ePortfolio assignment!
There are four sessions:
Feb. 2: Intro to FTP and UNIX
Feb 9: HTML Basics
Feb 16: CSS Basics
Feb 23: Advanced CSS + wrap-up
You may choose to attend all or any you wish. The place is Hamilton Library (UH Manoa campus) Room 113. Time: 11:45am - 1:15pm. Cost of attendance is $1 (covers materials, etc).
Please RSVP to lisweb [at] hawaii [dot] edu by THURSDAY January 31st if you wish to attend.
Priority is given to current LIS students, as the seating is limited in the room. However, if you can bring your own laptop, you can definitely come
There is UH wireless in the room (though in a pinch you don’t need the live Internet).

of School Librarians Spring Conference. If you have the opportunity to

Karen will serve as part-time staff at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA this June. In exchange, ALA National will cover her registration fee, housing, and a daily meal stipend. Congrats!

Position Title: BHSD Intern
Location: Business, Humanities, and Social Sciences Department, Hamilton Library
General Description: BSHD Interns report to the department head for the performance of reference service and BHSD project support activities. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical reference experience, knowledge about the organization, and the process of reference services in an academic library setting. Approximately 15 hours per week starting at $10.80 per hour. Available immediately.
Special Responsibilities and Duties: Provides reference service at the Hamilton Library BHSD Reference Desk, including weekday evening hours and weekend hours. Performs assigned projects relating to reference service that require assessment and writing skills.
Qualifications: Graduate student enrolled in the UHM Library and Information Science Program. Applicant should have successfully completed LIS 601 (will consider applicant currently enrolled in LIS 601). Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and independently in a collegial organizational structure.

New Student Orientation Meeting: Wednesday, January 9, HAM113 8:30am

Come meet the professors and get information about the LIS student groups! New students will learn about their UH username, email and registration from the LIS Webteam, and will meet with their advisors for course scheduling and advising.
