“Libraries Fostering Civic Engagement” (Special Focus Series)

Title:
The Hunt for Honouliluli

Speaker:
Jane Kurahara, Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii

When: October 9th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm

Where: HL 2K

Description: Librarian Jane Kurahara took a reference query about the location of the
Japanese American interment camp during WWII in Oahu known as Honouliuli, and spent years following trails that resulted in many dead ends. The significance of this story about a long-forgotten piece of WWII history
demonstrates how librarians are truly “information detectives.”
