(Primary degree: Pacific Islands Studies): Of the 30 credits required for this MA, LIS accepts 9 credits at the 400 and 600 levels toward the MLIS. thus only 33 LIS credits for the MLISc are needed instead of 42, for a total of 63 credits for both degrees.
(Primary degree: MLISc): Of the 42 credits required for the MLISc, Pacific Island Studies accepts 9 credits from the following LIS courses so the MA requires only 24 LIS credits:

- LIS 685 - Traditional Literature & Oral Narration
- LIS 687 - Information Sources for Hawaiian Studies
- LIS 688 - Pacific Islands Information Resources
- LIS 693V - Special Topics in Librarianship (when Pacific-related)
