The department provides comprehensive first and second year language courses in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, ancient Greek, and classical Latin.

Undergraduate students may major (BA) in French, German, Russian, Spanish or Classics (Greek/Latin). Certificates (minors) are also available in these languages. Master's Degree programs are offered in French and Spanish. The broad curriculum includes courses in English (undergraduate and graduate) in literature, cultural studies, film, linguistics, and literary theory.
