Marie-Christine Garneau de l’Isle-Adam is a 19th century French literature specialist, she is the author of a flurry of recent articles relating to George Sand, Stendhal, and Chateaubriand: 

• Un Rébus floral : Sand et Chateaubriand dans Béatrix de Balzac, histoire d’une rencontre was published in 2006 by the Centre National de Recherches Révolutionnaires et Romantiques, Presses Universitaires Blaise Pascal, Collection « Révolutions et Romantismes ».
• Du côté de chez Virgile, à l’ombre des “Géorgiques” en fleurs will appear in 2008 in George Sand Studies, a review annually published by Tufts University Press and indexed in the Romantic Movement Bibliography and the Modern Language Association International Bibliography.
• L’Advision d’Aurore was published in George Sand Studies in 2006.
• Les femmes athlétiques d’Hésiode et de Balzac: Atalante et George Sand appeared in 2005 thanks to the collaboration of University Blaise Pascal Press, France and University Aristotle Press, Greece.
• Sur des Vers de George Sand OU le flirt poétique de George Sand should appear in 2008 in the French Review, a journal published six times a year,   indexed in the MLA, whose circulation is the largest of all scholarly journal of French studies in the world.
• Mémoires d’un chef d’œuvre: Stendhal mémorialiste de Retz was published in 2005 by the French Review.
• Stendhal, figure de proue d’une nouvelle critique littéraire du cardinal de Retz came out in 2004 in the French Review.
• Promenade dans l’image des sports et de l’athlétisme depuis l’Antiquité was published in 2006 in Inter-Textes, an annual review under the direction of the Comparative Literature Laboratory of the Department of French Language and Literature in Thessaloniki, Greece.

            In addition to these articles on 19th French literature, she has also written a book and a few general articles relating to French language and literature:

• Vie du Cardinal de Rais habillé en femme is a book published by Panthéon, in Paris, France, in 2003.
• Towards a Necrography: Memoirs (1676) of Paul de Gondi, Cardinal de Retz (1673-1679) is an abstract published by Biography, University of Hawaii Press.
• Koiné or Lingua Franca: A Dilemna for Humanity and the Humanities appeared in 2005 in the International Journal of the Humanities published by Common Ground Publishing Pty Ltd, in Australia.
• Christopher Miles’s The Maids & Jean Genet’s Les Bonnes was an article solicited by the American Film Theater session at the Doris Duke Theater at Academy of Arts, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
• Esprits animaux et Esprit bête tout court appeared in a special edition of  Paroles Gelées published by UCLA Press.
• America and the Dream of the Golden Age: Displaced Representations of Antiquity in Amerigo/America: Neworld/Neword was published by the Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Social Imagery She is also the author of several book reviews published by Ohio University Press,

Her scholarship as a translator during the past seven years deals with 19th century music and memoirs, 20th century film, biography and francophonia:

• In 2003, she served as translator for a great number of dictionary entries (Carmen, L’Arlésienne, Jeux d’enfants, Prix de Rome, Jules Adenis, Leuven,  Lauzières-Thémines, La jolie fille de Perth, Don Procopio, Vasco de Gama, Ivan IV,etc. ) in the Dictionnaire de la Musique en France au XIXè Siècle published by Fayard, Paris, France
• In 2005, she translated a 383-page volume entitled John Kekela’s Correspondence (Sept. 18, 1853- Aug.11, 1879). This correspondence was written by Kekela, a Hawaiian missionary sent to the Marquises Islands. This translation was sponsored by the Andover Foundation of Archeological Research for a publication by the Société des Études Océaniennes or Haere Po No Tahiti Press. This publication has not been published yet.
• In 2000, she translated a screenplay of an entire Color Film, Waking Mele, shown in the Hawaii International Film Festival (Director: Ann Misawa).
• For Name of the People’s Doctor published byUniversity of Hawaii Press, she translated George Hatem’s 90 page medical thesis necessary to write his book.
• In the 2004, she was the co-translator for aKong Bunchhœurn’s Cambodian short story, Une mystérieuse passagère, in a series entitled In the Shadow of Angkor. Contemporary Writings from Cambodia,published in Manoa, by University of Hawaii Press. Manoa is a “unique, award-winning Pacific literary journal of international writing that includes American and international fiction, poetry, artwork, and essays of current cultural and literary interest”.
• In 2004, she served as translator for Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak for an article, Touchée par la déconstruction, written for Lettres françaises, a monthly supplement of L’Humanité. This issue of Lettres françaises came out immediately following Jacques Derrida’s death.

Since last spring 2007, she has served as External Referee for Crisoleguas, a new e-journal of the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Crisolenguasprovides a forum for scholars who work on literature, culture, language, linguistics, and film topics in French, Italian, German, and Portuguese, including topics in Classical Languages Latin and Greek. Crisolenguas is designed to disseminate and share the research of scholars with other scholars in the Caribbean and beyond. During the past four years, she has also served as External reviewer and Contributing Editor for the Center for Biographical Research and its interdisciplinary quarterly review, Biography, published by University of Hawaii Press. Her reviews appear in Vol. 29, Number 1, Winter 2006, Vol. 28, Number 2, Spring 2005, Vol. 27, Number 4, Fall 2004, Vol. 27, Number 2, Spring 2004, Vol. 27, Number 1, Winter 2004, Vol. 26, Number 4, Fall 2003, Vol. 26, Number 3, Summer 2003, Vol. 26, Number 2, Spring 2003. Moreover she is the author of several book reviews:

• Un journal à soi, a 215 page book written by Philippe Lejeune and Catherine Bogaert (Editions Textuel: Paris). This review appears in Biography, an interdisciplinary quarterly review published by the University of Hawaii Press (Vol. 27.3, Summer 2004: 645-9).
• Genesis, Manuscrits-Recherche-Invention, Autobiographie a 300-page volume written by Philippe Lejeune and Catherine Viollet (Revue internationale de critique génétique. 2001: JMP, Paris, France). Biography (Vol. 25, Number 3, Summer 2002: 518-522).
• Samuel Beckett & Compagnie, a 160-page book written by Sjef Houppermans, published by Rodolpi: 2003. This review can be found in Études Francophones, a review published in collaboration with the Conseil International d’Études Francophones by The University of Louisiana Press (Vol. 19-1, Spring 2004:  203-206).
• Broken Lives and Other Stories, a 182 page book written by Anthonia C. Kalu. (Ohio University Press, Research in International Studies, Africa Series # 79). This review appears in CSSAAME (Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Vol. 25.2, Winter 2005: 509-510) published by Duke University Press.

Finally, she served as Chair of the French and Italian from 2004 to 2006, as Graduate Advisor from 2002 to 2006, as member of the Faculty Senate from 2003 to 2006, and as member of the Study Abroad Council from 2005 to 2008. She is presently on sabbatical and is working on a book considering the literary interaction between George Sand, Balzac, and Chateaubriand.
