Ph.D. (Romance Philology), University of California,
Berkeley.
As a linguist and medievalist, trained in comparative Romance
philology (both medieval language and literature), I have responsibility
for graduate courses in history of the French language and French
stylistics. I also teach Old French literature (including readings
in Old Provencal troubadour poetry) and translation, as well as
third-year courses in French phonetics, grammar review, composition,
and conversation, and a fourth-year advanced French grammar course.
Other teaching duties include a seminar on research methods (LLEA
630); and a course in medieval Welsh language and literature:
LLEA 682 (Masterpieces of Medieval Welsh Literature). Since 1991,
the course has been offered nine times, most recently in Fall
2005.
I have offered a wide variety of topics as directed readings:
modern and medieval French epic, literature, and language; additional
readings in Medieval Welsh literature; introductory Rumanian;
dialectology of Corsican; and comparative Romance dialectology
and grammar.
Since Fall 1998, I have served as Managing
Editor of the journal TENSO,
published by Société Guilhem IX, after serving 4 years as Secretary-Treasurer
of the Société.
