Olympic decathlon champion Brian Clay promotes college and career readiness in a 2009 media campaign sponsored by Hawaiʻi P–20 Partnerships for Education’s GEAR UP Hawaiʻi program.
Clay, a graduate of Hawaiʻi’s Castle High School and Azusa Pacific University, describes how going to college was a turning point that led to achieving the high goals he set for himself.
The campaign is co-sponsored by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, The Learning Coalition and University of Hawaiʻi Federal Credit Union.
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded program based at the University of Hawaiʻi that is working to increase the number of low-income and traditionally underrepresented youth attending college.
