UH Hilo awards banquet

UH Hilo honors alumni, staff and community members at a banquet Feb. 27 in the Campus Center Dining Room. A silent auction will support the UH Hilo Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented to geology consultant and former Associate Professor Ron Terry, real estate broker Carol Ginoza-Arikawa and teacher and administrator Kumu Lehua Veincent.

All three honorees perform significant community service. Terry served on the State Marine and Coastal Zone Advocacy Council and has provided environmental expertise pro bono to a number of community initiatives.

Ginoza-Arikawa serves on the Kuʻikahi Mediation Board of Directors, as treasurer of the Hilo Little League and in various groups that serve UH Hilo.

Veincent coordinates the Keaukaha night tutorial program for grades K-12 and summer school programs for high school students and teaches Hawaiian language courses in the community and Kulani Correctional Facility.

Distinguished Service Awards will honor the late State Sen. John Ushijima and his wife Margaret, former UH Hilo dean of students, and State Rep. Clift Tsuji.
