UH prepares for West Oʻahu construction

UH West Oahu groundbreaking ceremony

The University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu blessed ground Jan. 14 in preparation for construction of a permanent new campus off North-South Road and Farrington Highway in Kapolei.

West Oʻahu Chancellor Gene Awakuni, center, was joined by university and state officials and supporters for the ceremony.

Work has begun on site infrastructure. Campus construction will continue in multiple phases throughout the decade.

The initial academic, administration and maintenance buildings are expected to serve more than 1,500 students for spring 2011 classes.

University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu officials are pursuing private partnerships to help pay for building construction. Read more about the new UH West Oʻahu campus.
