George McGuire, Amanda Lucero, Coach Mike Baker, Kristin Kowalkowski, Kelvin Lam

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa cheerleaders Kristin Kowalkowski and Kelvin Lam won the Partner Stunt Division at the 2009 National Cheerleaders Association’s Collegiate Cheer Championship held in Daytona Beach, Fla.

UH teammates Amanda Lucero and George McGuire captured fifth place.

Kowalkowski and Lam, hit their electric routine cleanly, executing one difficult stunt after another to win the first NCA/NDA Partner Stunt Championship in school history. They exhibited technique and skill in their intricate execution, finishing to a huge ovation from the crowd. Judges awarded a final score of 9.69—two-hundredths of a point ahead of the second place team from Louisville.

The routines were judged on technical skills, choreography, teamwork, creativity and showmanship. The top 18 teams in the nation showcased their routines at the Band Shell amphitheater in front of a packed audience.
