Students win cash for describing what they will miss about UH

To recognize student creativity and promote campus life and school pride, UHAA recently awarded two $500 grants to winners of the 2009 UHAA Student Grant Competition.

UH Mānoa freshman Sherwin Acidera won for his video titled “Diversity.” Honolulu Community College carpentry students Alvin Unciano, Richard Emoto, Ikaika Ariola and Dustin Labasan won for HCC Carpentry Movie”.

UH students from all 10 campuses were invited to submit a video based on the theme “What I will always remember about my days on campus” to one of two UHAA YouTube channels—one for UH Mānoa students and the other for students from the other nine campuses.

Submissions were evaluated by a selection committee on best interpretation of the theme, creativity, originality and content.

More than 600 UH alumni and friends gathered May 7 at the Sheraton Waikīkī to honor the recipients of the 2009 UH Distinguished Alumni Awards, the UH Founders Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award, and the UHAA President’s Award.

The event and silent auction raised money to benefit UHAA and its scholarship fund.
