The Mānoa Jazz Festival returns for its second year in the magnificent outdoor setting of Andrews Outdoor Theatre at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Sat., Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.

The festival kicks it up a notch with celebrated local and national big bands including the ʻIolani School Stage Band, Hawaiʻi Pacific University Jazz Ensemble and headliner New Orleans’ own Hot 8 Brass Band.

The members of Hot 8 Brass Band were born and raised in New Orleans and many began playing together in high school. They blend jazz and funk, infusing their performances with the spontaneous energy that makes New Orleans music loved around the world. For more than a decade, they have played the traditional Second Line street parades, originally adapted from the jazz funeral processions, now generally held for their own sake to let the good times roll!

Concertgoers are welcome to bring low-back chairs and picnics (no alcoholic beverages or glass containers). Authentic Cajun menu items from Kevin’s Two Boots and local plate lunch favorites from Simply Ono will also be available for purchase.

Tickets go on sale online Aug. 1, and at UH ticket outlets (Stan Sheriff Center, Rainbowtique at Ward Centre, UH Mānoa Campus Center ticket office, Windward Community College OCET office), or by phone at 808 944-BOWS (944-2697).
