Run for the team; track’s Mānoa Mile is Feb. 5

Sports fans have two opportunities to run in support of Mānoa athletics: the Band Holiday Fun Run on Dec. 10, 2010 and the Track and Field Mānoa Mile on Feb. 5, 2011.

Band Holiday Fun Run

The University of Hawaiʻi Band Holiday Fun Run is scheduled Friday, Dec. 10 at the T.C. Ching Field at the lower campus athletic facilities on the Mānoa campus. Registration and t-shirt pickup is at 6 p.m.; the event takes place 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for most creative holiday costume, best dressed keiki fan (age 5 and under), best dressed senior citizen (age 65 and older) and best dressed pet. The band will play, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

The $30 fee covers an official fun run t-shirt and race and contest entry. A portion is tax deductible. Proceeds support travel to one away football game per season for the band, which has led spirit and cheers at hundreds of UH athletic events.

Track and Field Mānoa Mile

The Wahine Track and Field Mānoa Mile is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 5 on on the makai campus at Mānoa. Packet pickup for all participants will be at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, 3–7 p.m. Feb. 4 and 6:30–7:45 a.m. Feb. 5.

The course will start on Lower Campus Road and finish at the track in the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. Each one-mile race will be divided into various categories, with a 400-meter “Rubba Slippa” race to conclude the day’s events.

The $20 entry fee includes a t-shirt. Winners of each race, including the “Rubba Slippa” race, will receive a champion’s t-shirt. Proceeds will support the women’s track and field team in its upcoming NCAA season, which opens with the first sunset meet on Jan. 22 at Ching Field.
