The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo broke ground Jan. 15, 2011, for a new, one-stop Student Services Center fronting the Performing Arts Center on the Big Island campus.

The 35,000-square-foot, three-story structure will allow students to enroll, register and pay for classes under one roof, as well as take advantages of support services including financial aid, advising, career development, counseling and health promotion.

A trend in campus design, the one-stop center “will reduce the run-around and enable us to deliver important services in a more timely manner,” says Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Luoluo Hong.

The $15.9 million building was designed by Honolulu architectural firm Urban Works and will be built by Jacobsen Construction of Salt Lake City. Opening is anticipated in 2012.

The existing Student Services Building will house the College of Business and Economics.
