| 1. Print
out a copy of the Curriculum
Proposal Cover Sheet - Course.
Follow the steps and write the date that each item is completed. 2. The first step for new courses is to check the most recent list of Active Courses in the UH System to determine which alphas and numbers are in use. If the new course you are proposing is the same as another course in the system, use that alpha and number. You may also search the entire list at UHCC Master Course List. NOTE: There is no particular order for numbers 3 and 4 below, however student learning outcomes must be incorporated in the course outline, so the General Education Skill Standards should be developed at the same time. 3. If this is a course that is appropriate for inclusion in the MCC Liberal Arts AA Degree, download the current version of the degree -- which will take effect in Fall 2008. Read the requirements for each category and determine which category this course would fulfill. Download and fill out a form for the appropriate category: Numeracy, Logic/Critical Thinking, The Individual, The Community, Environmental Awareness, Asia/Pacific Prespective, Hawai`i Emphasis. E-mail this form to Dorothy Pyle for review by the Liberal Arts faculty. 4. Write the Course
Outline. For instructions, go to Course
Outline Instructions. Refer
to the Prerequisite Style Sheet for correct syntax
and fomatting of course prerequisites.
For help wording Student
Learning Outcomes, there are references listed
in Outcomes button at the top of the page. Link all the Student
Learning Outcomes to both the Recommended Course Content and to Recommended
Course Requirements and Evaluation.
5. For a new course, fill out and attach a grid for the General Education Academic Skills Standards (also known as the CCOWIQ grid.) If there are several different courses on the grid, highlight the column for the course being submitted. 6. Fill out a Curriculum Action Request (CAR) Form - Course. For instructions, go to CAR Form New Course Instructions. Be sure to sign the CAR Signature Page. 7. If the course is appropriate for articulation to the General Education core, you need to consult the UH System Articulation web page. Complete an Articulation Form, and prepare both a hard copy and disk with the Course Outline to be forwarded to the UH System Committee by the MCC Articulation Coordinator 8. Consult with
your Academic Subject Area Representative listed on the Curriculum Committee
Home Page. Have her/him review the documents and sign the the CAR
Signature Page. 10. Submit a complete, signed, hardcopy set of the proposal documents to the Curriculum Committee Chair and email attachments of the CAR form, course outline, and assessment grid to the Chair. These will be posted to the Curriculum Committee web page. Once any suggestions for corrections and improvement have been implemented, the Curriculum Committee will act on the proposal. Follow-up - The proposal will be forwarded to the Academic Senate for approval. Once approved it goes to the Chief Academic Office and Chancellor for review and approval.
