| Maui Arts & Cultural Center | Education Intern (See arts education in action!) | "MACC is a comprehensive performing arts center located across from MCC. The education department at the MACC has been working closely with both public and private schools on Maui since opening in May 1994. In 1995, DOE, Maui District, and MACC joined The Kennedy Center program 'Partners in Education'. The primary focus of the partnership is professional development for teachers. The education department at MACC provides the following: 1) A summer institute and ten, three-hour workshops for teachers from September to April each year; 2) CanDo! Days, all-day field trips for students, grades 1-5 where professional artists lead sessions in dance/movement, visual art and drama. Over 6,500 students each year attend; 3) Approximately eight performances for students." | Education Assistant, Kariana Seiler (MCC graduate and former MACC Co-op intern), will train intern for duties: 1) Help with registration of teachers, collection fees and assist with preparation and follow-up for professional development workshops; 2) Help with set-up of CanDo! Days and complete evaluation summaries; 3) Assist with faxing, typing, filing for various other projects; 4) Assist with preparations and follow-up for student performances. Minimum Qualifications: Previous college experience, working on Associate of Arts degree preferred. Experience working with people a must. Need good computer skills, including MS Office 2000, Excel. Outgoing and personable and pays attention to detail. Flexible and willing to work various hours if needed. Ability to work with children and handle some stress. Be willing to participate in the different activities for broad exposure to the arts. Schedule: 8-12 hours per week; average of 10 hours. From early September to mid-May, possibly Summer. All for-profit projects housed at these offices are for software development, software support, or information engineering/assurance services. Each project group works in a professional office setting with a team of technical and professional staff that is supervised by a Project Manager." ML&P owns approximately 28,600 acres on the island of Maui, on which it operates the Kapalua Resort community and cultuvates and processes pineapple. ML&P also owns and manages the 8,661 acre Pu`u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which is the largest private nature preserve in the state of Hawai`i. ML&P and its two principal wholly owned subsidiaries, Maui Pineapple Company, Ltd. and Kapalua Land Company, Ltd., share a vision of creating and managing holistic communities that integrate agriculture, wise stewardship of natural resources and eco-effective design principles to build a sustainable future for Maui. Maui Agricultural Partners is a new research and development arm of ML&P." MAP is seeking an intern for the following agricultural research project: Research and Development of Pasture Improvements and Protein Stacking Programs. | Maui Land and Pineapple Company | Organic/LISA Garden Establishment Intern | See above description of Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. MAP is seeking an intern for the following agricultural research project: Research and Development of Organic Farming Practices. Intern will assist in conducting research and crop evaluation to determine optimum cultural practices and agronomic programs for proposed organic/Low Impact Sustainable Agriculture farming potential in the Kapalua area.
