How to Utilize the New Calendar System
The new calendar is
connected to the UH System calendar so any events we add now show up
in myUH portal for students, as well as on www.maui.hawaii.edu. So
it's a great way to spread the word about your events.
The Calendars:
Now, there are only two calendar categories for MCC, one for students
and general public http://www.hawaii.edu/calendar/mcc-student/
and one for faculty and staff specific events:
http://www.hawaii.edu/calendar/mcc-facstaff/
Where the calendars are found:
Both of these calendars show up in the myUH portal for students and staff (if you
are a current student or staff you may have to login, then click “edit
calendars” and subscribe to the appropriate calendar, while new
students should automatically be subscribed to the MCC calendar in
myUH). The student calendar also shows up on our public MCC homepage
www.maui.hawaii.edu and on the subsites of
http://maui.hawaii.edu/student/ ,
http://maui.hawaii.edu/alumni/aover.html , and
http://maui.hawaii.edu/faculty/.
While the facstaff only shows up on http://maui.hawaii.edu/faculty/ .
If we (faculty and staff) make the facstaff
http://maui.hawaii.edu/faculty/ our homepage on our web browsers, we
may be able to cut down on the amount of maui-announcement emails by
viewing the upcoming fac-staff events and announcements there. (to
post an announcement (not a calendar event, but a PR type article) to this page please fill out form
http://maui.hawaii.edu/SubmitNews.html to be approved and posted.
Bookmark this.)
How To Suggest Events in Calendars:
Any person with a UH username can suggest events to either calendar
through the login page (Bookmark this.):
https://login.its.hawaii.edu/cas/login?service=http://web03.its.hawaii.edu/site/calendar/verify.php
bookmark this page. (Or you can go to
http://www.hawaii.edu/calendar/mcc/ and click on Login to calendar
system)
There is a “getting started” page that explains how to post events for
approval.
Notes on entering an event:
-Only the first 126 characters of your event description will show up
on our homepage’s event listings, so make the first sentence a catchy
summary (the entire description shows on the detail pages).
-You do not usually need to post to the System Wide Events Calendar,
(unless you feel manoa students need to be aware of it) so check the
box for Delete next to where it says “System Wide Events Calendar”
and
then check the box for ADD below that, and select MCC student events
or MCC faculty Staff Events.
- Formatting: as a temporary fix, for now, please put a “:” or a “—“
at the end of the Location field entry, for example enter in Kalama
111:
or Kalama 111--
