This class is required for MOP students to prepare for initiating the project required to earn a MOP certificate.MOP is a unique cross-disciplinary, undergraduate program integrating experiential and classroom education about the ocean and freshwater systems. The goal of the MOP Seminar is to assist students in identifying and carrying out an appropriate project towards earning a MOP certificate. This is accomplished by examining case studies of MOP students, by writing a project proposal and by surveying marine organizations statewide, which might host student projects and/or provide career opportunities. Lectures, slides, videos, and discussions are carried out via the university's statewide, interactive television system. The host site rotates to different campuses; guest speakers are often featured. Readings supplement the live broadcasts.
The final grade is based on:
- Midterm
- A Final Exam
- A Project Proposal (written and oral)
- Class Participation
Students who are not regular UHM, UHH, Leeward CC, Windward CC, or Maui CC students may enroll through UHM Outreach College (Continuing Education) for IS 100.
