About the Neuroscience and Magnetic Resonance Research Program

Recent News:

The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) at the University of Hawaii has attracted a record number of major grants in 2004 to help drive its goal of becoming a major research medical school. In conjunction with Queens Medical Center, the school has established a cutting-edge and growing MRI research program, the central mission of which is to find health solutions for Hawaii and the rest of the world.

Hawaii has its only research-dedicated high field Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (3T-MRI).  Researchers at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and the Queen’s Medical Center, Linda Chang, M.D., Thomas Ernst, Ph.D. and others are utilizing a 3-Tesla MRI scanner, located at the Queen’s Medical Center, to conduct NIH-funded research:

   •  Brain Activation in Patients with Early HIV Dementia

   •  Early Brain Development after Prenatal “Ice”
       Exposure: A Longitudinal MR Study

   •  RGR-based Motion Tracking for Real-Time Adaptive
       MR Imaging and Spectroscopy

   •  Imaging Studies in Neurotoxicity &
       Neurodevelopment

   •  Parallel MRI for High Field Neuroimaging

We would also like to thank our funding sources here for their continued support.

Recent News:

The website recently underwent a major update.  Researchers’ pictures, bios, and volunteer opportunites have been updated!

The lab submitted 15 abstracts to RMCI and 18 to ISMRM!  We thank everyone and all our collaborators for their hard work!
