Robert Franco

Robert Franco, professor of anthropology and director of the Office for Institutional Effectiveness at Kapiʻolani Community College was recognized as a national leaders in Community College National Center for Community Engagement’s recent online publication Beacons of Vision, Hope and Action. In honor of their 20th annual conference in 2011, CCNCCE recognized 20 individuals who have been instrumental in leading the national service learning and civic engagement initiatives within American higher education.

Lynn Nakamura-Tengan

Lynn Nakamura-Tengan, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa associate extension agent, was presented the Continued Excellence Award at the annual session of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Albuquerque, N.M. The award recognizes her active and continuous involvement in professional improvement programs, promotion of professional development and leadership. Her outreach work includes innovative and timely programs in consumer and on-farm food safety, hand hygiene, nutrition education and emergency preparedness.

Valentino Valdez

Valentino Valdez, University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu’s graphic designer/staff photographer, was awarded the Social Media Personality Award as part of Technology News Bytes’ 2011 Social Media Summit on Oct. 19. The Social Media Personality Award honors individuals who stay top of mind in the social sphere and keeps up with the trends of social media innovation.
