Contest seeks school song for UH West Oahu
The University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu is currently accepting submissions for melodies and lyrics for consideration as the school’s official alma mater.
The alma mater will be sung at commencement, award ceremonies, investitures, orientations and other campus events. The winning alma mater song will represent the campus ʻohana with an ethos that reflects the values and sense of place of the UH West Oʻahu campus.
Contest rules and selection process
The contest is open to all UH West Oʻahu current and former faculty, staff and students, as well as alumni.
Participants are encouraged to submit melodies and lyrics that are easy to sing and learn with moderate vocal range and include regular phrase structure, have broad appeal and are appropriate for ceremonial events.
Participants may submit an original tune and lyrics or original lyrics to a pre-existing tune that is in the public domain.
A panel of judges will review the submissions and reserves the right to make changes to improve the song’s long-term viability. Participants may submit multiple entries. The panel of judges may opt not to select any submissions and re-open the contest if desired.
All submissions become the property of UH West Oʻahu and will not be returned. The deadline to submit entries electronically is Friday, March 8. Lyrics should be emailed in Word format with melodies sent as mp3 or wav files to firstname.lastname@example.org.
