A new Degree-in-Three program at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College will help students who work full-time to pursue higher education through evening, online and cable classes.

The program is a modification of the former Weekend College program with the change from weekend-only to evening and online/cable classes designed to accommodate students’ working schedules and quicken the time to complete.

Students who enter the program will take classes Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and one online or cable TV class through the fall and spring semesters, then one class during the summer semester to complete their degree in three years. Participants who already completed some requirements may graduate earlier.

Information sessions for those interested in learning more about the D-3 program will be held Thursday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Kaʻaʻike Building, Room 109. Topics will include financial aid, transferring college credits from other institutions, program and time requirements and information about student support services.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who might have started college but didn’t finish, or didn’t have the support needed to complete a degree,” says D-3 Counselor Linda Fujitani. “Through this program students will be part of a cohort or class of other working professionals, all focused on achieving their associate degree in three years. That way they have the support of their peers in addition to the support provided by our academic counselors.”

For many, an associate degree in liberal arts is an important first step towards achieving a baccalaureate or even a master’s degree. Students who participated in the college’s prior Weekend College program have gone on to pursue baccalaureate degrees at other University of Hawaiʻi institutions through the UH Center, Maui.
