UH President M.R.C. Greenwood said the university is very honored to be the educational partner for the Worldwide Voyage, which will take the Hōkūleʻa and its crew to 28 countries and 62 ports during its 2013–14 voyage of Hawaiʻi and its 2014–15 voyage of the Pacific.
Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson credited the heroes who laid the groundwork for the Worldwide Voyage, including Eddie Aikau, Mau Piailug, Pinky Thompson and Lacy Veach.
Thompson volunteers as the special advisor to the University of Hawaiʻi president. Greenwood said Thompson has given generously of his time and expertise to the university, and this is a special opportunity for UH.
UH faculty, staff, students and alumni all over the world are involved in various aspects of this project. Monday’s gathering gave faculty, staff and students the opportunity to meet PVS members, see what other participants are doing and understand the role the university will play in the Worldwide Voyage.
