Leeward Community College Theatre presents The Liliʻu Project, a journey into the heart and mind of Lydia Kamakaʻeha Pākī, the woman who would become Liliʻuokalani, explored primarily through the lens of her music and poetry.

The last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, was a gifted and prolific composer, leaving behind a musical legacy that is remarkably progressive and profoundly innovative. Her songs continue to inspire, influence and enlighten, while offering insight into her life as an artist, woman and leader.

The Liliʻu Project’s first installation is expressed in a live performance of ten compositions, nine of them by Liliʻu. Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning vocalist Starr Kalahiki is backed by nine musicians, and choir members from Leeward Community College and University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu Chorus.

The Leeward Community College Theatre presents The Liliʻu Project on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The performance represents a collaborative effort presented by Hawaiʻi Artist’s Initiative, in cooperation with musicians, artists and scholars from our community and Leeward Community College Theatre.
