Kennedy Theatre’s 2014-2015 season is packed with four mainstage productions that are sure to please. This season will feature a variety of productions from the supernatural hilarity of Blithe Spirit to the enchanting Hawaiian language adaptation of Lāʻieikawai.

2014-2015 Mainstage productions

  • Blithe Spirit
    October 3, 4, 10, 11 at 8 p.m.
    October 5 and 12 at 2 p.m.

The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much-revived classic offers up a fussy, cantankerous novelist, who is remarried but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife after she is called up by “happy medium” Madame Arcati. Charles’ present wife is none too pleased with sharing her house or her husband with the spirit world. Worldly and unworldly personalities clash in a battle to see which blithe spirit will win. A pre-Halloween treat!

  • The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)
    November 14, 15, 22 at 7:30 p.m.
    November 22 at 4:30 p.m.
    November 23 at 2 p.m.

Roald Dahl’s classic book about the 24-feet-high Big Friendly Giant and a little orphan named Sophie brings to the stage some of his most memorable characters. BFG and Sophie team up to save the children of England from the child-eating giants, Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater, Bonecruncher, Meatdripper, Childchewer, and Gizzardgulper. Though the book is intended for young readers, audiences of all ages will laugh out loud at this lovable character.

  • Lāʻieikawai
    February 20, 21, 27, 28 at 8 p.m.
    February 22 and March 1 at 2 p.m.

The inaugural production in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s new Hawaiian theatre program. This stage adaptation of the traditional Hawaiian moʻolelo (story) of Lāʻieikawai will feature hula, ʻoli (chant), mele (song), and will be performed entirely in Hawaiian. Co-sponsored by the UH Mānoa Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge and the Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language.

  • Dancing Off the Page
    April 17, 18, 24, 25 at 8 p.m.
    April 26 at 2 p.m.

UH Mānoa dancers leap off the page in this year’s Annual Dance Concert with slam poets and beatboxers. Guest artists include choreographers Eric Stern from the popular Dr. Schaffer and Mr. Stern Dance Ensemble, Joe Goode from the Joe Goode Performance Group in San Fransisco, and Nelson Hui, composer, performer and recording artist from Hong Kong.
