Lassner Supports Governor’s Maunakea Plan

Governor David Ige announced his proposed way forward for the stewardship of Maunakea at a news conference on May 26. For more details on his 10 point action plan, read the governor’s news release.

A short time later, University of Hawaiʻi President David Lassner told reporters that the university “can and must do better.” He added that UH will have more information within the week.

UH Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney added that he shares Gov. Ige’s belief that “the activities of Native Hawaiians, and of our scientists, to seek knowledge and to explore our relationship with our cosmos and its creation can and should co-exist on the mountain” and he looks forward to working with all stakeholders to achieve this goal.

  1. It would be nice if there was a video playhead and controls to see where I am in the video or allow me to more forward or backward. In a lengthy video, if I want to backup and listen to something again I don’t want to have to watch the entire video and then start over to hear just that section again.

  2. What a politician we are the Hawaiian culture of these Hawaiian islands! The first humans of this land get it right Governor Ige. Please stop calling us the host culture, we are the hostage culture held by you the State of Hawaiʻi and the United States of America.
