An episode of Ka Hui Hoʻolauna, the online news series written and produced by students from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Communications journalism department, was recognized at the 36th Annual Telly Awards with a bronze award in the student TV program category.
Episode 15 features a story on the effects of Hawaiʻi’s rail project, a public housing complex in Pālolo that’s helping families find a better future, a talk story session with UH System President David Lassner and much more.
Ka Hui Hoʻolauna’s entry was among close to 12,000 entries from across the nation. The Telly Awards recognizes outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, video and film productions, as well as online commercials, video and films.
“The Telly Award is an amazing affirmation of our journalism program and a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and teaching staff,” said Bernadette Baraquio, media design and production specialist with the College of Social Sciences. “We are thrilled that our recent graduates can confidently move forward in their careers knowing what it takes to produce professional, TV broadcast-quality work. This achievement will hopefully serve as a motivation for future students to continue striving for excellence in journalism and a stronger passion for creative storytelling.”
