It’s back to school season for University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa students, many of whom are new to the Mānoa campus. The UH Mānoa New Student Orientation program is helping newcomers make the transition.
“Today we’re facilitating new students coming into the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. We’re introducing them to college life here and that includes things like academics, how to register for classes, introduction to scholarships, as well as fun things like getting involved and doing the campus tours. We feed them and introduce them to a lot of information in this one day,” said New Student Orientation Senior Leader Ryan Yamada.
“Working with our academic advisors really helped us a lot too to see what classes we need and to make sure we graduate on time,” said Amateo Flores, an incoming UH Mānoa freshman.
“I’m looking forward to actually meeting new people and having the same interests as me,” said Jessica May Juan, also an incoming UH Mānoa freshman. “We could help each other with homework and stuff and reaching our goal in getting a degree.”
New Student Orientation sessions are held before the beginning of every fall semester and are open to all incoming students as they prepare for the academic journey ahead of them.
Added Yamada, “We really care about them and we care about their success especially within the first semester and then beyond.”
