University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa architecture senior Kristoffer Jugueta, who spent the summer in Copenhagen as part of Study Abroad in Scandinavia, has won a design excellence award from the program.

Jugueta’s project and final presentation involved designing new recreational space on Blågaards Square on Nørrebro in central Copenhagen. During the seven-week summer program, he traveled with a faculty-led tour from Study Abroad in Scandinavia to Sweden and Finland.

“We had 11 students studying in Copenhagen this summer, and Kris was an outstanding student recognized for his contributions and work,” said Allison Yap, advisor and assistant faculty specialist in the UH Mānoa Study Abroad Center.

Added Henning Thomsen, program director of Architecture and Design in Study Abroad Scandinavia, “Each semester we recognize one student in each discipline (architecture, interior architecture, urban design, graphic design and furniture design) with a design excellence award. It is given to a student who has distinguished himself/herself through diligence, academic performance, and who contributes to a positive, collaborative learning environment in class.”
